Google Search Results – Trends for 2016

google-search-resultsThe Google search results page is one of the more overlooked but very vital pieces of online marketing.  If you compared the results page from a year or two ago to today, you would see that Google only had 2-3 ads per search and the map was shown to the right of the listings.  Now (I attached a screen shot to the right, click to enlarge) you can’t even see the natural SEO ranked websites without having to scroll.  On my screen, I have to scroll 3/4 the way down the page to get to the organic listings.  There are 4 ads each with 4-5 lines, then you get to the Maps and each listing has 3-4 lines.

A lot of clients want to jump straight to the SEO and I always point this out to them.  SEO should still be a priority but you absolutely can’t over look Adwords (if you have the budget) and Google Maps.  If you aren’t on there, you better believe your competition is!  It’s smart on Google’s end from a earning standpoint but sad that it almost forces your hand as a business.

Either way, our recommendation in all aspects of online marketing is to increase your exposure in any way, shape, or form.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to visit our SEO page or give us a call.

Our SEO Strategy for 2016

SEO CincinnatiSEO is constantly changing and we have to adapt our strategy every year, but here are our recommendations for 2016! The biggest addition in the past year or two has been Local SEO.  We will get into that more though below.  Let’s dive in!

1. Keyword Research
Every good SEO strategy starts with keyword research.  You may be surprised by people’s searching habits.  We provide the cold hard facts according to Google so we can optimize your website accordingly.

2. Website Review
If you have an existing website, we will review it for the keywords that we chose from our keyword research to ensure that your website is on the right track and see where you stand currently in SEO rankings.

3. Sitemap Structure
Believe it or not, Google does look at how your pages are laid out.  What are they called? How are they structured? It all comes into play and in this step we review and make any changes needed.

4. Website Optimization
We will grade every page of your website to ensure it’s optimized for the keyword(s) that you would like.  If needed, we will make changes.

5. Analytics/Reporting
We can’t stress this step enough.  How can you measure your success if you aren’t tracking your results?  We get weekly reports emailed to us and also to our clients showing you what has happened in the past week.

6. Local SEO Campaigns
Google likes to see consistency of your business information across the web.  In the past, you would have to manually go to every business listing and make sure they matched.  Nowadays, it’s automated with companies such as Moz Local and Yext.  They basically blast out your company information to 100’s of local directories to ensure that your company name, address, phone, etc all match and are consistent.  This helps with SEO as well as visibility and exposure across the web.

7. Link Building
We still prefer to get links through content creation and never recommend buying links, ever.  It used to be popular to submit your link to various directories, but this has died down a lot over the years because of nofollow links as well as Google updates.   There are still some strategies that work here but we can’t stress content creation enough!

8. Content Creation
Content is still king in our opinion.  Companies struggle with this one the most because they don’t want to write the content or hire a copywriter but yet in our opinion it’s one of the more important steps to SEO.  Google likes to see value on your website.  The more value you provide in your content to your clients or visitors, the more links you will gain naturally and the happier your visitors will be.

9. PR
Good PR is great in a few different ways.  First and foremost, if you ask, normally they will put a link in the article to your website which is huge for link building.  Secondly, you are getting exposure on the web and perhaps in the paper.  It’s all around a win win.

What is Local SEO and Why Does it Matter?

What is Local SEO?
Let’s start off with the basics.  Local SEO is how your company shows up locally in search results.  Think of local SEO as the YellowPages of 1990.  If you wanted to find a plumber in your area, you would go to the plumber section of the yellow pages and give them a call.  Today, you simply go to Google, type in “Cincinnati Plumber” and you are on your way.  So here’s the question, how do you currently rank for those types of keywords such as “Cincinnati Web Designer” or “Cincinnati Deck Builder” or “Cincinnati {insert your keyword here}? That’s what Local SEO is all about.  Let’s dive into what we believe here at WebTec makes up “Local SEO”.

Local SEOGoogle Business/Local, Yahoo Local, Bing Local
Today on Google, if you search a local keyword such as “Cincinnati Web Designer”, a map shows up with 3 listings (image on right) that Google thinks best fit your search.  How do you get on these map listings? It all starts with your Google Business page, Yahoo Local Page, or Bing Local page, all of which are free to create.  In our eyes, this is the 1st and most important step to getting your local SEO in line.

Accuracy of Information
Now we do want to point out that if your information on your website does not match your Google Business, Yahoo Local, or Bing Local pages, it’s believed that this can negatively affect your rankings on the maps.  We also feel that if you have a lot of mixed information out there on the web on other sites such as yellowpages.com, yelp.com, etc those could also negatively affect your ranking.

Other Important Sites/Directories
Let’s talk about those other sites such as yellowpages.com, yelp.com, citysearch.com, foursquare.com, and the other 100 local sites that out there.  Will creating accounts on those websites draw in local traffic as well? Absolutely.  The only key here as we mentioned before was make sure that your information matches across all sites.  Now, does anyone realistically have time to create 100+ different accounts? I know we don’t!  That’s where our Local SEO software comes in.  We can actually put your information into the software 1 time, and it blasts it out to the 100+ websites that are out there.  It sounds pretty easy but it does require a lot of follow up because the software picks up on duplicate listings and incorrect listings that are out there on the web that need corrected.  It’s by far one of the best advancements we have seen in local SEO and you should definitely take advantage of it if you haven’t already.

This post has become pretty lengthy, so I’m going to go ahead and cut it off here but even just with these 2 items I mentioned above, you will be leaps ahead of your competition more than likely.

Hopefully you’ve learned a lot and I do have more to share about local SEO so stay tuned for a part 2.  If you don’t have time to do all of this yourself, you better believe we offer this as a service (and more than what’s described in this article) for our clients.  Please give us a call at (513) 426-7441 or fill out our Request A Quote and we can get you more information.

Cincinnati PPC Marketing

SEO or PPC Marketing? Or Both?!

Cincinnati PPC MarketingShould you go with SEO or PPC marketing? Or maybe even both? This is a tough question to answer and one that really depends on your particular situation. We try to answer it best by breaking businesses down into two categories.

New Business or Established Business with no SEO
If you are a new business or established business with no SEO, you should definitely utilize PPC (pay per click) marketing regardless of your ROI (return on investment) so that you at least get in front of your customers on Google or Bing. If the budget allows, start working on your SEO (search engine optimization). SEO takes time to get established and ranked so it’s always better to start earlier rather than later. It is definitely an investment, but once you reach the top in regards to SEO, you should start seeing a difference in your bottom line.

Established Business with SEO
If you are ranked decently well for the keywords that you would like to be, then, in our opinion, PPC Marketing is optional. Some business owners like it just for brand awareness or because it knocks the competition down an extra spot and lists their business twice. Both of those reasons are valid. However, if the ROI isn’t there, those dollars may be better spent elsewhere. The reasoning is that you will still get in front of your customers with your SEO keywords and you can spend that extra PPC money to get in front of a different audience. It’s a toss up, but it really depends on your industry and audiences.

Google’s Latest Update – Mobile Optimization

Cincinnati SEOAs of April 21st, 2015 Google will now be factoring into their mobile ranking criteria whether your website is mobile optimized or not. One of the Google webmasters wrote:

“…we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high-quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”

What does this mean for you?

I think you will be surprised by the amount of traffic that is coming to your website via mobile devices. I would venture to say most websites fall into the range of anywhere from 25% to 40% of total traffic that is mobile. I’ve seen some higher and some lower but most fall into that range. So if you were considering a re-design, now is definitely the time to consider building a responsive website and it will definitely give you an edge over your competition as far as mobile searches go.
